"Berta Dear, Thank you for your lovely Christmas present. I feel that you meant for me to wait for it till Christmas Day, but the Skipper knew how I should love it, and brought it to me at once so that I should not miss a minute of all the pleasure it is going to give me. It is set on the table opposite my bed, in front of the tortoishell[sic] tea-caddy, so that I can see it all the time. I like Arthur's letters. I think I should like him very much; and your sisters are interesting too..."
