Nesbit, Edith to E.N. da C. Andrade, undated

 Item — Box: 3, Folder: 3
Identifier: 2005.002.1.3.3.001

Scope and Contents

Transcribed copy of the original letter.

No date, but likely written during World War I, as Andrade was fighting in Europe and Nesbit mentions encyphering her letters to him to fool the censors.

Scope and Contents

"Dearest Edward Edward, Yes - I had gathered that about 1623. I was really trying to convey a cypher to you, so that I could communicate by it to you, if your letters were censored. But since they aren't it doesn't matter. I meant to convey that the first letter of the first line was the beginning of the cypher. 6th of 2nd, 2nd of 3rd, and 3rd of 4th would have followed naturally. What I wanted to ask was first where you are? - then are you comfortable? then, how do you think the war is going? Can you tell me these things?..."
