"Dear Mrs Moore, I spent yesterday reading the Skipper's copy of the biography - mine only arrived to-day sent on from Willifield Way - and I want to write to you while it is "All hot, smoking from the pan". I want my copy for a few days longer but I don't want to put off writing until I send that back. First, I go further than Mr. Benn. I was not only "reluctant to put it down". I simply couldn't. I read straight on, only stopping to get a meal and then reading on right through the meal, and far into the night. As I wept alomost[sic] continuously through the last chapters you may imagine the state of ache my eyes were in this morning..."
