Gus Welch American Expeditionary Forces identity card, undated [1910s]
Scope and Contents
The photograph featured on the identification card is of Gus Welch in military clothing, facing forward. The card itself, in large printed lettering and in both English and French, reads: "American Expeditionary Forces Identity Card". Additionally there are identification prompts, also in English and French, with handwritten answers. They are as follows: "No. '3595-S-5,' Name 'Gustavus A. Welch,' Rank 'Capt.,' Duty '808 Pioneer Inf.,' Signature 'Gustavus A. Welch'". There are also two handwritten signatures of military figures between Duty and Signature. The identity card is made to be folded.
