Photograph features Gus Welch in long coat and hat. He is not identified in writing as Gus Welch, but it is the inference of the processor.

Handwritten on the front of the postcard is a note that reads: "My Valentine mistake!". The reverse side of the postcard has hadwritten note addressed "To Frank" with the message reading: "your offer, sir, is very kind To be my leap-year valentine. I've made a mistake, I must admit- This picture here will show you It, and if it's all the same to you, one mistake is enough, I'll not make two." The last three words of the original message were marked out and re-worded underneath. The correction reads: "(I'll) be damned if I make two." with a note beside it reading: "changed by the censor". The identity of the sender and/or the person who adjusted the note are unknown.
