Handwritten draft of an unpublished piece, in a burgundy exercise book with 1 page handwritten and 4 pages of revised typescript laid in.

Please note: J.C. Lennard has examined this notebook with care and is persuaded that it would best be described as an early draft of passages which later appear in The Jewel in the Crown. Lennard notes that the character named "Ronnie Merrick" and "Daphne Manners" appear in this draft, although some passages that would later involve Merrick are here attached to a character named "Norman Cranwell".
