Scope and Contents

Fri. Aug. 30th 1918. Instructions on belt loading machines. Bought $0.10 worth of prunes for [?] money & changed addresses on insurance & allotment papers.

Sat. Aug. 31st 1918. [?] captured Fri. Inspection of billets, guns & field pack marching. Received back letter I wrote to Alfreda the 24th

Sunday Sept. 1st 1918. Wrote all morning to Mr. Reed, Anna Ericksen Alfreda & Papa Elsie Johnson May Lewry & Anna Bloomquist. Had scrambled eggs & bacon potatoes bread & coffee & [sirup] for Bkft. Had prunes for dinner 1st time since in France. Was taken down to brook for bath. It was very cold and the sun was not out. Wrote to Louis Apperson

Mon. Sept. 2nd 1918. [Bermon] labor day. Very cold on arising. I work on machine gun #122893. There must be mountains not far away. Drilled on guns sighting & camoflaging. Bought $0.10 worth of prunes ([demi] franc).

Tues. Sept. 3rd 1918. Walter is 22 yrs old today. Received 47 francs & 6 centimes pay for July Bought 2 francs of figs & prunes. Early to bed. Wrote [?] letter & had an easy day of drill. Paid barber 1 france 40 centrimes for haircut.
