[Continued from page 46] a village but did not come in contact with them then we crossed a swamp and many little creeks & rills. I waded through a creek and lost my box of ammunition and hand grenade I picked up in the trenchs but I rescued my 4 cans of chow in a bag. It was very cold water and I hollered Save Me Save Me. We got on top of Hill 270 after leaving Death Valley and we were caught by machine gun fire & snipers. Whang! Zip! Olsen and I crawled flat on our bellies and everytime we moved a sniper shot at me and Olsen. It was so cold our breath gave us away. I finally left the gunners gas mask on the hill as the cover wouldn't stay down & got in my way. A little later it got so warm I forgot my raincoat in
