Scope and Contents

Typed memo.

Culver City: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, February 2, 1960. A typed Inter-Office Communication addressed to Richard Maibaum from Crandall Brown on the subject of Amazing Stories by various authors.

The memo states: Presentation (54 pages) including 3 long story outlines entitled "Battleground", "Mr. Steinway" [and] "Dream Town", and 7 pages of additional story lines. From Bernie Sindell Agency to Leon Mirell. Sindell represents that he can get Salvador Dali to host. I This material proposes an anthology series in which the stories would deal with the bizarre, strange, supernatural things that happen to average, every-day people - a secretary, a clerk, a cop, a doctor, a service station operator, etc. Stories for the series will come from Fantastic Magazine, Amazing Stories, Amazing Magazine, Fantastic Adventures, Magazine of Fantasy and Sci Fiction, etc. Authors include John Collier, William McGivern, John Dickson Carr, Richard Matheson, August Derleth, C.S. Forester, Robert Shackley, Cornell Woolrich. In each episode the host (Dali) is shown drawing an impressionistic, forbidding picture which indicates the type of story that is to be dramatized. Following the dramatization the host comes on again to wind up the show with some Inner Sanctum-type dialogue designed to sustain the mood of the story.
