Scope and Contents

Memo regarding The Farmers Hotel and Wax Apple. Universal City: MCA, June 9, 1971. A typed Inter-Office Memorandum addressed to George Santoro from Dan Petrie on the subjects of The Farmers Hotel and Wax Apple, with a copy of the memo cc'd to Doug Benton.

Cover memo from Dan Petrie of Universal City Studios to George Santoro regarding the project "The Farmers Hotel", specifically the story, "Wax Apple".

The memo states: 'I understand that you don't feel persuaded by the advisability of going ahead with a project called THE FARMERS HOTEL. This means to me that somehow we have not been able to put into the script the feelings we have about the entertainment viability of what Doug Benton and I feel is an excellent property by, of course, a superb writer. .. WAX APPLE ... was written by Sam Rolfe and which was brought to my attention by a bright young producer by the name of Norman Kurland who was formerly an assistant to Harry Ackerman at Screen Gems. WAX APPLE is a mystery with psychological overtones. It is set in a mental institution to which a former copy, present private investigator, has been summoned to investigate a series of mysterious happenings ... I urge you to read it not only as a possible world premiere with, of course, as you will see, excellent spinoff series possibilities but also I would urge you to let me know your opinion of the property as a low budget film utilizing one of the several stars who have a motion picture tie-in with their TV commitments with Universal.'
