Scope and Contents

Memo regarding Wax Apple.. Universal City: MCA, June 14, 1971. A typed Inter-Office Memorandum addressed to George J. Santoro from Coles Trapnell on the subject of Wax Apple by Sam Rolfe, based on the novel by Tucker Coe.

The memo states: 'I think there's a pretty interesting picture in this property. I It's about a Half Way House, a rambling old mansion where people recovering from mental and emotional illnesses, who have been released from sanitariums, can get their heads together before facing the world ... I have read the original novel on which Rolfe bases his treatment-synopsis, and it has a lot of good stuff in the way of dialogue, characterization and incident that could be profitably transferred to the screen. Rolfe in general tightens up the story, changes names and fiddles with some of the motivation; his changes, I think, are for the most part good. The detective hero, Max (his name in the novel is Mitch Tobin), has figured in a couple of other books and he well might be the lead in a series. This could be a World Premiere, a Movie of the Week or of the Weekend.'
