Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Elizabeth Jennings manuscripts consist of 39 notebooks and loose sheets of handwritten working drafts of approximately 2,225 poems, many with handwritten revisions, written between 1973 and 1992.

The poems were said to be unpublished at the time of acquisition and cover a wide range of topics including artists, composers, and writers. They are arranged chronologically by the date provided by Elizabeth Jennings. They are also indexed alphabetically by title. This collection of the English poet contains 39 autograph notebooks containing 2166 poems, many unpublished with many revised and corrected. Bookseller magazine describes this collection saying As usual, Miss Jennings' poems cover an extraordinary range of topics. What distinguishes this group of notebooks from others is the presence of a number of prose poems on the subject of artists, composers and writers.
