Photograph of a Funerary Cortege, approximately 1920
Dates
- Creation: approximately 1920

Summary
A view of a possible funeral cortege or procession, featuring an 18 person band, six pall bearers in white hooded robes carrying a covered casket. Behind them are six men and two women, and behind them are at least eleven women several of whom have handkerchiefs. On both sides of the street are onlookers.
The name on the drum is stamped "-- Institute of Technology." The presence of Hamburg Hall, the Church of the Ascension and St. Paul Cathedral, Pittsburg in the background make it most likely this is at Carnegie Institute of Technology, and the procession is going east on Joncair Street (what little of that remains today is now Margaret Morrison Street).
It has been suggested that this could be the funeral of Henry Hornbostel's monkey, but significant details differ from established photographs of that event.
