Biographical / Historical

This article originally appeared in The Austin American Statesman, May 3, 1953 under the title "John Shepperd, Mavericker and Trail Driver of 1866." According to the note on the typescript, “On Trail and Range in 1866” it was sent to the Quarter Horse Journal. March 1, 1954. It was finally published as “On Trail and Range in ‘66” in Frontier Times, February 1958.
