Wystan Hugh Auden manuscripts, 1936-1960
Scope and Contents
The W. H. (Wystan Hugh) Auden papers include a production copy of the script for The Ascent of F6 used for the 26 Feb 1937 production at the Mercury Theatre; a portion of the script written in the hand of actor Evan John who portrayed the Abbot to be used as a director's prompt copy, together with Stuart Latham's explanation of the above; a musical score for voices; a letter from Auden to Latham, press cuttings and other material relating to the play. Also included in the collection is a complete typescript draft, with revisions, of poems collected in Homage to Clio, a collection published in 1960; along with typescript drafts of the poems “Crisis,” “The Geography of the House,” “Love Letter,” “September 1939,” “Since you are going to begin to-day,” and “The Territory of the Heart.”
