Beaumont Bruestle - Charles Sweir collection, 1937-1980
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of the scripts for 52 plays with corresponding musical scores plus 16 musical scores without scripts. Included in the collection are autograph and typescript lyrics, correspondence, theatre programs, press cuttings, and miscellaneous. The dated scripts and their corresponding musical scores are arranged chronologically; undated scripts and scores follow in an alphabetical sequence. Any correspondence and/or press cuttings related to a play's production are inter-filed behind the script/score to which they pertain. The majority of the scripts and song lyrics were written by Bruestle, the musical scores by Swier. The 16 unidentified musical scores and songs are arranged in an alphabetical sequence by title as are the autograph and typescript lyrics that succeed them. The miscellaneous consists of material such as Swier's essay on the Opera, his piano and vocal compositions, and his drawings, a booklet of poems by Bruestle, and a variety of published music by other composers/songwriters.
