Unpublished proof of a chapter of Catlin's ms. entitled "Mandan Village."

Pages 1-4 in final page form, cut and trimmed on single folded leaf with stab holes (23 cm.)

Pages 5-8 printed on recto only of single leaf folded and stitched, with ms. corrections (20 cm.)

Pages 5-12 printed on recto and verso of single folded leaf, with pages 5-8 corrected as on above proof and pages 9-12 in rough form with ms. corrections; pages 9-12 printed in duplicate on recto and verso of single folded sheet, recto in very rough form with the same and more errors as on above proof and each page scored with pencil, verso as corrected on above proof but with a few further ms. corrections (21 cm.)

Ms. corrections of Sir Thomas Phillipps, antiquary and bibliophile. Phillips proposed that Middle Hill Press print Catlin's notes on the American Indians. Catlin decided against publication by Phillipps. This account was published in 1841 as Letter 21 in Letters and Notes.
