Scope and Contents

Painter, of Philadelphia. Personal correspondence relating in part to portraits of famous men and to Andrew Jackson. Most of the papers are letters relating to the painting 'Andrew Jackson before Judge Hall." C. J. Hedenberg is the correspondent who gathered the information that enabled Schussele to recreate the scen over forty years after the event.

Christian Schussele was born in Guebviller, Haut Rhin, Alsace, while that province was French. Schussele is the artist who painted the courtroom scene of Andrew Jackson being tried before Judge Hall in New Orleans.
