Corporal Thomas Thoma of E Company, 6th U. S. Infanttry Regiment stationed at Fort Buford, Dakota Territory, made pencil sketches of the views of the Yellowstone River country to accompany a report by General J. W. Forsyth - 'Report of an expedition up the Yellowstone River made in 1875.' Each of the 22 sketches is identified.
