Helen E. and Homer E. Britzman collection of Charles Russell, 1902-1938
Scope and Contents
Also known as the Britzman Collection, the Homer and Helen Britzman Collection and the Russell Research Collection. The collection is extensive. It includes 160 pencil, pen and ink drawings and sketches, an unfinished watercolor, several clay/wax models, small sketchbooks and drawings, three illustrated letters from CMR to friends, CMR's Last Will and Testament written in his own hand, a collection of CMR's paints, brushes and palettes, some of his clothing including ties, boots and hats, a revolver with a scrimshaw handle (presumably CMR was the artist), more than a thousand pieces of correspondence to and from CMR (some signed by celebrities or Western luminaries), prose and poetry by and about CMR including 60 pages in CMR's hand, numerous boxes of newspaper clippings and ephemera, and thousands of photographs of CMR, his family, studio/art/homes, outings and trips, etc.

Legal Status
The collection is owned by the Gilcrease Management Trust, and if the management agreement is terminated with the city, the collection will become part of Special Collections at The University of Tulsa. The Collection is housed and managed through the HCAR.
