Lorenzo Dow Gunn Papers, 1863-1876

 Collection
Identifier: MC-1964-81

Scope and Contents

Most of the papers deal with Gunn's service in Co. "F" of the 30th Wisconsin Volunteers. One item is a ledger-type book with records of some accounts, a journal kept on board the Steamer "Effie Deans" near Nebraska City, Nebraska, and a personal diary. Lorenzo Dow Gunn was a native of Iowa and there are certificates of his appointment and subsequent promotions in the "Wisconsin Volunteers."

One unusual document is from the patent office granting him permission to "make, use and vend" an improved lamp chimney. There is a photograph of his wife and a picture of the "Wilder House, Butler and Gunn, Proprietors, Fort Scott, Kansas."
