During World War II, LST-713 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater] to his mother Mrs. J. Earl Abell of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Jack Curnutt Rea WWII- era diary and ephemera
Five year diary kept by Jack Rea, USNR Radio Technician 849 52 94, Company 1574-44 between the dates of 19 July through 17 October (year unknown). In the diary, Rea recorded his training experiences and his on- and off-duty daily activities.
