The People's World traces its lineage to The Daily Worker, a communist/socialist paper.

"During the period from 1937 to 1939 I drifted into an informal study group, and fromm that to a Young Communist League Group to the communist party, because like many young men in their early twenties, I was deeply disturbed by the economic hardship I saw around me in those depression years and by the rising tide of Axis aggression...."
