David Sloan Stanley Journal, 1853
A diary of a journey from Fort Smith to San Diego in 1853 was kept by Lt. David Sloan Stanley who was accompanying Lt. A. W. Whipple on his assignment to locate the southern route for the Pacific Railroad. This diary appears to be the account of that expedition.

William H. Strong Journal, 1878
Subject matter: A guest of P. H. Sheridan, William E. Strong kept an interesting account of a hunting trip to Indian Territory in 1878. Gen. A. W. Whipple, a Colonel Moore, and Ben Clark, guide, were also in the hunting party. Strong gives a good description of Clark and there is a photograph of him. There are several excellent pen and ink sketches of wild turkeys.
