"Dear Cecily, Here we are, almost at Christmas and I can hardly believe it! It has always been a great pleasure for me to write at least once a year to all my friends - but this year, because of arthritis, my hands are crippled. Then, out of the blue, I receive a note from two dear young friends, telling me to write my Christmas message and send the script to them..."
"This has been a very difficult year for most of us here in Britain, what with bad weather and recurring bouts of flu' and colds. Now we are ending the year suffering from depression financially, bodily, mentally and politically..."
Handwritten letter.
"Darling, I know I have written to you already [?] around time at [Xmas?]. This is just to write you again, to tell you I have been praying to dear God for your deliverance. That you may not lose your precious sight. In your professional what you used most of all - I do hope you are [?] able to keep up your morale, but I am sure you have..."
