Alan P.J. [Pryce-Jones] to Rebecca West, 1960
Scope and Contents
"Dear Rebecca, I ought to have written before, but I hoped to have something concrete to say. When I heard from you I rang up Professor Ray, and found that he had already spoken about Adam to the Ford Foundation, who at the moment employ me to help them spend their money. I very much fear, however, that nothing will come of it all, since Adam does not fit easily into either foundation. The awful truth is that poor Grindea has the kiss of death so far as that paper is concerned. He is a dear man, but in vain have I tried to sell him to Tom Eliot (who has done a lot), to David Astor, to William Haley, etc. Under his care that paper will never flourish, but it seems too heartless to say so..."
