"Private and Strictly Confidential: Your kind letter sent to me through Harry Walston has deeply touched and delighted me and I want to thank you most sincerely for it. ... Everyone was conscious of Lewis's charm. This was very disarming and it was closely associated with his manners. I use this word deliberately as dintinguished[sic] from his charm because I have in mind not merely his most attractive social manners but manners in a profound intellectual and spiritual sense which made him deeply appreciative of tact..."
