A grant of ownership of freehold property by John Bokenham, son and heir of Joan Bokenham, lately deceased, to Gilbert Talbott, Knight, Chamberlain of the Prince, of all his share in a house and land in Bourghall in Whitchurch; in lands called Sladehale next to Hethelane in Shropshire; in a house and lands in Duddyngton in the tenure of Reginald Wykestede; a pasture in Alkington called Broderuddyng; and all his other lands, etc. in Whitchurch, Duddyngton and Blakemore.

Scope and Contents

Know All Men present and future that I, John Bokenham, The son and heir of Joan Bokenham, lately deceased, have given, conceded and have confirmed by this, my present charter, to Gilbert Talbott, Knight, chamberlain of our Lord the Prince, all my parts of one messuage with the lands, meadows, grazings and pastures and their appurtenances which I have in the village and fields of Bourghall within the Lordship of Whitchurch in the County of Salop and also all my parts of all the lands and tenements of mine with the meadows, grazings and pastures and their appurtenances called Sladehale lying next to Hethelane in the county aforesaid and also all my parts of one messuage with the lands, meadows, grazings and pastures and their appurtenances which I have in the Lordship of Duddyngton which said messuage with its appurtenances was lately in the tenure of Reginald Wykestede and all my part of one pasture with its appurtenances which I have in Alkyngton called Broderuddyng in the county aforesaid. I have given and also conceded to the aforesaid Gilbert Talbott, Knight, all my other lands and tenements, rents and services with the meadows, grazings and pastures, ways, waters, paths, ponds, fisheries, woods, underwoods, together with the reversions, moors, marshes, briars, commons and all other rights and appurtenances whatsoever which I have and which descended to me in hereditary right after the decease of the aforesaid Joan, my mother, in the villages and Lordships of Whitchurch, Duddyngton and Blakemore in the county aforesaid.

To Have and to Hold all the aforesaid lands and tenements, rents, reversions and services with the meadows, grazings and pastures and other things aforesaid to the said Gilbert Talbott, Knight, his heirs and assigns of the chief Lords of that fee by the services due therefrom and of right accustomed forever. And I indeed the aforesaid John and my heirs will warrant all the aforesaid lands and tenements, rents, reversions and services with all their appurtenances and the other things aforesaid to the said Gilbert Talbott, Knight, his heirs and assigns, against all people, and shall defend them forever.

In Witness Whereof, I have set my seal to this present charter in the presence of these witnesses: Richard Sanford, Esquire; John Dodde, Esquire; William Bromeley, Esquire; William Hickeson, Cleric and many others.

Given at Whitchurch aforesaid on the 10th day of April in the eighteenth year of King Henry the 7th after the conquest.
