John E. Barry collection of legal documents, 1365-1778
Scope and Contents
21 handwritten legal documents, primarily land indentures dealing with the Talbot family (Earls of Shrewsbury), collected by John E. Barry.
Barry was a Tulsa attorney and civic leader; a former Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa president; a trustee of the Philbrook Museum of Art; a trustee of the John Steele Zinke Foundation; served on the boards of directors of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust, Midwest Art Alliance, Tulsa Ballet, and the Nimrod International Journal. Barry acquired these documents while studying at the London School of Economics as a Fulbright Scholar in 1951. They hung for many years in his offices, and after his death were given to TU. Original transcription and translation of the documents was done for the Barry family by Eric Poole.
