Jonathin Chin Indenture, 1715-1742
Scope and Contents
These papers consist of seven letters concerning the indenture of Jonathin Chin, an Indian, to William Wanton "for a certain length of time." The indenture is dated October 20, 1715, at Newport, Colony of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations.

Biographical / Historical
William Wanton was born in Scituate, Massachusetts. At one time a slave merchant, he was speaker of the House of Deputies; Rhode Island governor, 1732-33.
