Although the originaly ownership of the exercise note book is in question, the name/initials that appear on verso of many of the photos is Wallace A.S. or WAS. 61 photographic images. Originally mounted in a brown "The Universe; Open to the World" school exercise note book (8-1/4" x 6-7/8"), with lined paper. Photographs are of the 'snapshot' variety. Houston, John Bennett Shaw, and Edward J. Soph. They were committed to collecting all of the first edition works by Walt Whitman. In February of 1952, Greenslade and the others endowed the first rare book room in the north basement of McFarlin Library to house the Whitman Collection.
