Content Description An 18th-century commonplace book , used as a cook book, predominantly written in a contemporary hand in black ink. Nearly two hundred and seventy food and beverage recipes from the 18th century. A second hand begins with the date of 1776, and contains twelve recipes. The final six leaves are blank. No specific compiler is identified, though many recipes indicate their source, e.g. Mrs. Broughton, Mrs. Goldsmith, etc.

Content Description An 18th-century commonplace book used to record financial accounts, poetry and then primarily for recipes and other household matters. From the names recorded in the ledger portion of the volume, it would appear that the woman whose volume this was, resided in a Puritan community. Specific places mentioned in the volume include Kensington and London. Entries written in at least two different hands.In total, the volume contains approximately eighty recipes, written dos-a-dos fashion....
