Scope and Contents

1915 pocket diary, repurposed as a journal by an unknown soldier in the US Army 5th Infantry Division. Very brief entries describe his division's constant movement through France, the soldier's experiences being shelled by the Germans, snipers, dead Frencgh civilians in the streets, gas alarms while in the field, sleeping in holes in the ground, meals eaten, etc. Although each entry is marked with day and date, they are often not correct when compared to a perpetual yearly calendar.

Pocket journal or notebook kept by an unidentified AEF Field Artillery soldier/officer, Company A, 114th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, while in France, 1918.

Handwritten contents include: various lists of names of section members, men on specific details, surnames, supplies; disciplinary actions taken; daily schedules and routines; diagrams of manuevers; etc.

Series of 159 black and white photos, most with captions, printed on card stock, most taken between June 1917 and April 1919. Images include scenes of men as they enlist at the Fairgrounds in Detroit; views of the exterior and interior of the barracks at the Fairground in Detroit; scenes of the men enroute to Europe; scenes of thei engineers' work and activites while in France; and scenes of their return trip to the States.

Small collection of items reproduced from the originals of Wagoner Fay M. Ham, of the 167th Tulsa Ambulance Company, 42nd Rainbow Division, US Army. The collection includes: 2 photo-reproductions of photographs of W.Fay M. Ham in uniform; photocopy of travel document following his release as POW; photocopy of a photo of ambulance; photocopy of Ham's pencilled journal titled, "Life of a German Prisoner of War", a recollection written in 1928.

Scope and Contents Exercise notebook made into a photo ablum. Although the originaly ownership of the exercise note book is in question, the name/initials that appear on verso of many of the photos is Wallace A.S. or WAS. 61 photographic images. Originally mounted in a brown "The Universe; Open to the World" school exercise note book (8-1/4" x 6-7/8"), with lined paper. Photographs are of the 'snapshot' variety. Subjects include soldiers, places, trains, etc. Some appear to be post-war, and most are captioned...
